Corporate Support

Northumberland Wildlife Trust provides a corporate membership scheme for organisations keen to partner the Trust in its important work.  Whilst charitable support from the region’s business community is vital, an association with the Trust offers multiple benefits.

Northumberland Wildlife Trust Charity Number 221819.

Awareness of ‘green’ issues is at an all time high and a focus on positive local action for global impact is prominent across industry. Terms such as 'carbon footprint', 'environmental sustainability' and 'corporate social responsibility' (CSR) are now commonplace in organisational strategies, as companies look to implement best practice for the benefit of their workforce and customers as well as the local economy and community.

Members’ feedback indicates that an association with an organisation at the frontline of environmental conservation has the capacity to impress customers and improve public profiles.

Northumberland Wildlife Trust offers companies the opportunity to fight climate change, protect wildlife and support local communities. This in turn will complement human resources, marketing and CSR strategies.

Human Resources (Workforce Development)

Employee expeditions with Northumberland Wildlife Trust can be a vital component of a staff development strategy but they could also prove very profitable for your company in the long term.

“We worked as a team on a totally unique and new experience; we achieved something at the end of it whilst helping the environment”, Lindsey Cox, Inland Revenue.

Usually involving a day at one of 60 nature reserves under the guidance of NWT’s highly trained staff, corporate groups can challenge themselves to complete tasks such as bog damming, tree planting, scrub bashing, path laying and many more.

“The highlight was seeing the end result and the teamwork involved”, Jen Cole, Northern Rock.

NWT has provided several companies with opportunities to enjoy these expeditions. The work is tough but fun and rewarding whilst also being an excellent team building tool, resulting in improved relations amongst the staff involved.

“Fantastic day that I would recommend to anyone”, Richard Ecclestone, npower.

Research, commissioned by Barclays Bank, shows that involving staff in their local community projects has positive results for them and the company.  Results include:

  • Improved staff communication skills
  • Enhanced teamwork
  • Greater employee satisfaction levels

Northern Rock Plc is now using these expeditions as part of its successful graduate trainee programme and has 'adopted' Holburn Moss nature reserve for the tasks. Focusing on one site enables a company and its staff to build an affiliation which will lead to more involvement.

Northumberland Wildlife Trust can provide opportunities for your staff that will develop their skills whilst giving them a fulfilling experience. The activities also improve physical and mental well-being.

Marketing and PR

Employees pictured in the great outdoors wielding heavy tools and toiling for the benefit of the environment provide great imagery for positive press and publicity.

Local papers are always keen to report on community focused ‘good news’ stories whilst company newsletters and intranets are perfect for celebrating and sharing the successes achieved by staff on community excursions.

"The Postcode Lottery has been delighted to work with Northumberland Wildlife Trust. They have been extremely helpful in helping us raise the lottery profile and highly proactive in gaining mutual press coverage." Ross Forbes, Regional Director, The National Postcode Lottery

Corporate Social Responsibility

According to the National Chamber of Commerce 'It pays to engage in Corporate Social Responsibility' with numerous benefits for any company. Click here for more information.

“Patterson Ford support Northumberland Wildlife Trust because we have a civic responsibility to be involved. We run several vehicle dealership sites with acres of tarmac. The least we can do is give something back to the environment.” Ashley Winter OBE, Managing Director, Patterson Ford.

Many of NWT’s supporters are involved in extractive industry, construction or development and know that an association with the Trust can help to mitigate their activities by supplying funding for important conservation and community work elsewhere.

Get Involved

Three tiers of corporate membership are available, catering to the needs of businesses from large multinationals to small family owned companies. For more details on how your company can benefit, contact Christine O'Neil.

Beyond the membership scheme there are also opportunities to fund projects, sponsor publications and even adopt a species or nature reserve.

The Trust has enjoyed an ongoing partnership with regional energy supplier npower. The company’s support has enabled the Trust to successfully run three different award schemes, put on numerous events and complete several projects. Many npower office workers have enjoyed team days out on nature reserves as part of the company’s staff volunteering scheme.

"Being a corporate supporter of Northumberland Wildlife Trust helps npower to put something back into the wider community in which we operate. Effective community partnerships bring positive benefits including improved staff morale and retention, they protect our corporate reputation and build trust amongst our customers and other external stakeholders."
Gary Doig, Community Involvement Manager, npower
