Mears lends a helping hand

29th July, 2010

Northumberland Wildlife Trust would like to say a massive thank-you to Cramlington-based building company Mears which has stepped in to help the Trust following the suspected arson attack which destroyed the wildlife charity’s visitor centre and observation hide at its Hauxley nature reserve overlooking Druridge Bay.

Mears will be working for the next year on refurbishing council homes at Hadston, near the reserve and, in addition to this heavy workload, has cleared the Hauxley site of the burned-out building and is busy converting and fitting out a disused former brick toilet block on the reserve into a temporary visitor centre.

The firm’s efforts will save the Trust around £8,000, and the company’s suppliers, City Electrical Factors and builders’ merchants Travis Perkins in Blyth have donated materials for free, while JBT Waste cleared the debris from the site.

Mike Pratt, Northumberland Wildlife Trust Chief Executive said: “The efforts and support of these companies is wonderful and has made our job so much easier. I cannot thank them enough for their generosity - it is an inspiration to all of us.”
