Location and access: Car parking and access is available on Wansbeck Road or along the access road to Dene View.
This small pond at the edge of Ashington is a haven for wetland species. Of particular interest are the dragonflies and damselflies, such as azure and emerald damselflies, common hawker and common darter, using the pond and the grazing land adjacent to the reserve. The grassland margins are used by a variety of butterflies such as wall brown, meadow brown and small copper. There are small areas of scrub, areas of deep water and shallow margins contributing to the interesting nature of this site. Mallard, moorhen and coot breed at the pond. Heron have been observed feeding and there are good populations of a number of amphibian species.
