ST NICHOLAS PARK
NORTHUMBERLAND WILDLIFE TRUST

This urban park comprises areas of meadow, woodland and ponds, including a wildlife garden, permaculture area and the offices of the Trust.

Location and access:  Access is easy by public transport (buses 14, 15, 16, 30, 31 or the Metro to Regent Centre followed by a 15 minute walk). By car, the site is 4 km north of Newcastle City Centre, off the B1318.


The park contains a pond, wildflower meadow, wildlife garden, woodland walk and stone circle. The varied habitats are managed for local people and visitors to enjoy. The facilities at the activity centre are also available for group bookings, educational visits, conferences, seminars and training events. For further information please contact the Wildlife Trust. Although situated in an urban location, the park attracts a range of wildlife including butterflies, dragonflies, common frog and small mammals. Winter flocks of birds have included greenfinch, redpoll, brambling and waxwing. Educational groups and volunteer groups use the activity centre for a variety of activities, by prior arrangement. The surrounding grounds contain pond dipping platforms, play features and a demonstration wildlife garden.
