Location: The officer will be based at Northumberlandia for most of their time but may also be required to travel to the Trust’s Headquarters at Gosforth occasionally.
We are looking for a confident, innovative and enthusiastic person to join our team. The manager’s role will be to manage the ‘visitor experience’ and to run the Northumberlandia Visitor Centre. At Weetslade the manager will work with the team of volunteers to maintain an attractive site for a wide range of visitors.
The Trust and its trading subsidiary employ 60 staff and work from premises in Gosforth. As an organisation we strongly value our personnel and are committed to continuous improvement in our Conservation work. Northumberlandia and Weetslade are managed by the Trust in partnership with the Land Trust.
We are looking for a confident, innovative and enthusiastic person to join our team. The manager’s role will be to manage the ‘visitor experience’ and to run the Northumberlandia Visitor Centre, including the co-ordination of staff and volunteers, working with the site warden at Northumberlandia and working with other members of the land management team in the overall management of the sites.
The Manager will lead on the development, integration and delivery of the visitor facing elements on Northumberlandia with the aim of creating a stunning visitor experience. The role holder will lead the warden, casual staff and volunteers to ensure that visits to the site are high quality. At Weetslade the manager will work with the team of volunteers to maintain an attractive site for a wide range of visitors. Weetslade is a heavily used Country Park and is rich in wildlife and we envisage a site where the visitor experience is further enhanced, linking to developing communities on its doorstep, whilst enhancing the sites rich biodiversity.
The Land Trust and Nothumberland Wildlife Trust envisage a Northumberlandia Visitor Centre where the facilities inspire and encourage people to visit the site and engage with the landform, the landscape and the natural world. The centre will be fully integrated with the wider site and will offer quality interpretation and information to add value to any visit. The centre will be a multi-purpose facility providing information, interpretation, education, refreshments, gifts, toilets and shelter for the local community, tourists, educational visits, art related visits, health visits and events.
The role will involve:
- Working as part of the land management team including staff, volunteers and contractors to run the visitor services at Northumberlandia and oversee the site management at Northumberlandia and Weetslade
- Working closely with the fundraising and development team (including membership) to maximise sales and profits
- Working closely with Land Trust staff on promoting and managing the site
The role is offered on a 12 month contract and is for 35 hours a week with the possibility of it becoming permanent dependent on site success. The salary starts at £20,355 per annum.
