The news that the Government has U-turned on its proposal to disturb the nests of buzzards and to even capture and relocate them is most welcomed by NWT, everyone in conservation, and everybody who signed the online petitions and voiced their outrage.

It is now over two years since Northumberland Wildlife Trust started its work on Prestwick Carr, administrating and carrying out works on the SSSI mire and, in the past year, securing tenancy on Newcastle City Council’s holdings at the Carr.

Chris Packham, renowned wildlife writer, broadcaster, naturalist, popular host of BBC Springwatch, and, most importantly for this Region, Patron of Northumberland Wildlife Trust, has been busy tweeting encouraging followers to speak out against the £375,000 Defra plans to spend researching ways to keep buzzards from targeting captive-reared pheasants.
