With the 2012 Olympics fast approaching, Northumberland Wildlife Trust is delighted to welcome M.Steel Cycles as a bronze category corporate member.
We’re an honest, local, independent company supporting local communities and local wildlife.
The company, based in South Gosforth is Newcastle’s longest established bike shop serving Tyne & Wear since 1894.
Headed, by Olympic cyclist and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Joe Waugh, the company meets the needs of both casual and passionate bikers alike and is a specialised, Trek, Orange and Bianchi bike dealer, with a massive 3,000 square foot store with top brands such as Altura, Endura, Gore, Shimano, Specialized, Trek and System Ex.
Speaking about his decision to become a member of the Northumberland Wildlife Trust, Joe said: “Everything Northumberland Wildlife Trust stands for is exactly what we at M. Steel Cycles stand for, so it is a joining of like-minded organisations. We are proud to be working alongside them and our uniting will enable us to continue the good work we are doing within the communities in our beloved North-East.”
With the government becoming wise to the ‘green’ effort, the importance of cycling is rising; more cycle lanes are being opened in an attempt to encourage people to ditch the car and help the environment - a policy embraced by staff at M. Steel Cycles who are work with schools and businesses in Northumberland and across the North East to encourage people to travel in ways that benefit their health and the environment.
Mike Pratt, Northumberland Wildlife Trust Chief Executive said: “As an organisation, M. Steel Cycles cares for local communities and local wildlife just as much as it does for cycling - which is a credit to them. I am so pleased to welcome them our latest corporate member - from dormice to otters, peat bogs to tree planting the company’s financial support is invaluable to us.”
M. Steel Cycles isn’t a faceless company striving to meet targets with a disposable staff of uninterested amateurs; a number of staff have been with the company for over a decade, proving how deeply they care for the business, the environment and cycling itself.
