For, not only has the wildlife charity’s new Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre won first prize in the Community Category of the annual Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards then the crew from BBC Countryfile descended onto the reserve recently to film material for an upcoming episode of the programme which will also include stories about Rothbury, Amble and Coquet Island.

During the programme presenter, Steve Brown takes in the wildlife on the Hauxley reserve with volunteer warden Tim Mason, talks about the accessibility of the reserve for everybody and waits for a red squirrel to make an appearance. He also chats to Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s blogger James Common, whose wildlife blogging earned him a place in the finals of this year’s UK Blog Awards.

Alex Lister, Druridge Bay Living Landscapes Manager, said: “It was great welcoming Steve and the team to our reserve. The volunteers and staff here are so proud of the site and the new Wildlife Discovery Centre and we are so excited it is now going to be seen by people across the UK via national television and the internet. I have a feeling we are going to see lots of visitors this summer as a result of it which is great news for us”.
