On Monday 4th December from 9:00am onwards, members of the public will be able to start registering to join the thousands of people right across the country planning to brighten their wintery days by signing up for 12 Days Wild.

Everybody throughout the county can get closer to nature with this festive challenge, even when it’s cold and wet outside, and people of all ages are being encouraged to do one wild thing each day from 25th December to 5th January as part of 12 Days Wild.

In return for registering, there’ll be daily inspirational emails jam-packed with fun ideas to help you connect with wildlife and lift your mood. And better still, it’s free!

Once signed up, the daily 12 Days Wild emails will be bursting with creative ideas to give you a natural boost. Including:

  • How become a nature detective work and spot animal tracks in the mud or snow
  • How to get crafty using natural materials and create some wild art
  • Going wild in town or country and visit a nature reserve
  • Beating the January blues by listening to the Wildlife Trust’s Wild about Wellbeing podcast
  • Making a New Year’s resolution for nature to go plastic free/cycle to work/volunteer

Spending time in nature can help you feel happier and healthier, as the Wildlife Trusts’ national summer challenge, 30 Days Wild, has shown.

Liz Heard, Northumberland Wildlife Trust eco mentor says:

“12 Days Wild is a great way for everybody to experience something wild every day over days between Christmas and New Year."

“It’s also a chance to give something back to nature throughout next year by possibly making some small changes, or simply, getting out there and enjoying a walk on the wild side!

"When it’s dark, cold and miserable it can be really tough to get motivated to get your daily dose of nature, however, 12 Days Wild is packed with ideas and ways to connect with wildlife both indoors and out.”

Cel Spellman, actor, presenter and ambassador for The Wildlife Trusts says:

“The festive season is special for all of us and it’s important to think about the natural world too. There are lots of ways to make positive environmental choices at Christmas, such as using alternatives to single use wrapping paper, buying second-hand gifts, or creating decorations with natural materials.

“Whether you’re visiting nature reserves or appreciating the wildlife on your doorstep, 12 Days Wild is great for connecting us with the natural world during wintery days and nights.”
