IT consultants head outdoors to Northumberlandia

Staff at Tata Consultancy Services in Newcastle stepped out from behind their monitors recently and headed to Northumberlandia on Blagdon Lane for a wildlife work day.

The 11-strong team spent the day with Northumberland Wildlife staff and volunteers upgrading the woodland paths with 10 tonne of stone from a local quarry in preparation for the wildlife charity’s forthcoming autumn and winter events.

As the site attracts over 100,000 visitors each year, the stone used is far more hard wearing and economical than wood chip that needs to be regularly topped up.

Peter Ernst, Northumberland Wildlife Trust Estates Officer says:

“September is actually our busiest time of the year as we get the site ready for autumn and winter, so, needless to say, the help from the Tata team was very much appreciated and they are more than welcome back next spring to help us get the site ready for the summer influx of visitors.

“A lot of the work on our reserves is carried out during September to minimize disruption to wildlife. We allow flowers enough time to die back to ensure bees have had maximum use from them and we avoid disturbance to breeding birds and mammals.”

Ankur Mohapatra, Business Development Manager - Public Services - UK, Tata Consultancy Services says:

“Recently our team joined hands with Northumberland Wildlife Trust in a day of voluntary service. Despite challenging weather conditions, our team embraced this opportunity with enthusiasm and took immense pride in contributing to the upkeep of the woodland paths.

“This opportunity provided by the wildlife charity not only allowed us to contribute to this noble cause but also showcased our dedication beyond the tech realm for such community and environmental causes.

“We look forward to more of such meaningful collaborative endeavours through which we can forge a sustainable future for our local wildlife and communities.”
