The challenge, which ended Thursday 30 June, has seen more participants than ever before join Northumberland Wildlife Trust in the national nature challenge where everybody pledges to do something wild every day during June.

In Newcastle, Northumberland and North Tyneside 1538 households, 149 schools, 19 businesses and 17 care homes signed up and recorded special moments with nature ranging from dining al fresco every night - even in the rain! litter picking on the street and exploring a local stream with their young son to joining in the UK-wide Big Wild Camp-out in the middle of June.

The Trust was especially pleased that its Big Wild Day at Northumberlandia in Cramlington, held as part of the national Big Wild Weekend, was such a huge success with more people than ever descending on the site to get closer to nature via music in nature sessions, medicinal herbs walks and outdoor yoga.

Liz Lovatt, Northumberland Wildlife Trust Communications and Engagement Manager says: “During the covid lockdowns more people than ever connected with nature and their local green spaces to help them cope with what was happening in the world. There was always the possibility that once venues re-opened and life returned to normal, that their interest would fade, however, we have found that isn’t the case and are delighted that more households and groups took part than ever before.”

30 Days Wild will be back in 2023 with new challenges help everyone ‘go wild’!
