Nature hide replaced in time for Easter visitors

The new bird hide is now open for business at Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s Hauxley nature reserve - just in time for Easter.

The hide in the Willow Carr is now more accessible to wheelchair users and visitors pushing prams and buggies. Situated to the east of the reserve, it is a great place to spot species such as nesting herons, barn owls, curlews, kingfishers, reed bunting and sedge warbler.

The work, which took place in March has been made possible thanks to a grant from the Ventient Sisters North Steads Windfarm Community Benefit Fund at the Community Foundation.

Alex Lister, Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s Druridge Bay Landscape Manager says:

“Without the support of the Ventient Sisters North Steads Windfarm Community Benefit Fund, the new hide would not have gone ahead - it’s a great new facility for visitors to the reserve to enjoy.

“At this time of year, visitors to the reserve can spot 40 or 50 different species of birds, so it really is well worth pencilling in a visit this spring.”
