Still time to make West Chevington wild again

Still time to make West Chevington wild again

There’s still time for everybody to do their bit for climate change and support Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s Wilding West Chevington project.

Last year a £2m donation from The Reece Foundation enabled the wildlife charity to purchase a 327-hectare site at West Chevington, which is set to be a game changer for lowland Northumberland and the Druridge Bay area.

However, securing the land was only half the battle, as the Trust now needs to raise £25,000 via its Wilding West Chevington Appeal to develop specific plans to enable work to start on fighting climate change.

Between noon 22nd April and noon 29th April, the Big Give Appeal’s Green Match Fund is offering nature lovers a ‘double your donation’ opportunity, which will see their donations to the Appeal doubled.

The wildlife charity hopes people will support it as it needs to raise £25,000 for the vital surveys and planning work, which have which must be carried out before the restoration work on the land can begin.

Money raised via The Big Give will help fund land surveys, GIS mapping, aerial photography, soil sampling and the development of a number of rewilding methods.

As part of the development of the site, rare wildflower meadow and grasslands will be restored and developed to boost bees and butterflies and wetland and watercourses will be improved to improve water quality and reduce flooding downstream.  In addition, broadleaf trees will be planted to store carbon.

The Big Give is the UK's number online match funding platform, specialising in bringing charities, philanthropists and the public together to multiply their impact. Since it was founded, The Big Give has worked with philanthropists and the general public to raise over £186m for thousands of great projects - all through the power of match funding.
