Northumberland Wildlife Trust is inviting dogs of all ages, breeds and sizes to bring their owners along to their very own Doggy Spooktacular Halloween event at Weetslade Country Park this month.

Between 10:00am and noon on Saturday 29 October, the wildlife charity is looking forward to welcoming members of the public onto the site to tell them about its work and to join them on a short guided doggy walk.

The event is free and has been made possible thanks to support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery. There’ll be treats galore for all the furry VIPs and the chance for them to strut their four legs around the site in their Halloween finery.

Weetslade Country Park will also be hosting a guided walk that includes a trip to the Drill head Sculpture at the top, on Saturday 29 October between 11:00am and noon and 1:00pm and 2:00pm, plus its self-guided Autumn Trail every day from Saturday 22 October through to Sunday 30 October between 10:00am and 3:00pm.

Elsewhere, this half-term, there are plenty of opportunities for children and adults to lift their spirits and don their best Halloween outfits and join in a number of events on three of the Trust ‘s other reserves.

At Northumberlandia on Blagdon Lane in Cramlington, there are self-led pumpkin and owl trails from Thursday 27 October through to Sunday 30 October, between 10:00am and 3:00pm.

The two downloadable trails will help young wildlife explorers find hidden owls or pumpkins in the woodland, learning more about them along the way. A free chocolate treat courtesy of Waitrose Eldon Square is available for all the spooky adventurers at the end.

There are Northumberlandia guided walks on Saturday 22 October between 11:00am - noon and 1:00pm - 2:00pm and family den building sessions on Tuesday 25 October between 10:30am and noon, and Thursday 27 October between 11:00am and 1:00pm.

The Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre at Druridge Bay, will be hosting a guided walk on Thursday 27 October, between 11:00am and 1:00pm.

On the day of Halloween itself (31 October), Alex Reynolds from the Trust’s Wild City team will be hosting an event in the woodland of its St Nicholas Park reserve in Gosforth, Newcastle.

Between 3:00pm and 4:00pm, there will be a spooky trail through the woods followed by an arts and crafts session and a talk on bats, one of the items most associated with the witching day.

The events are suitable for children and young people aged between 5 - 9 years of age who must be accompanied by an adult.
