How to volunteer

To volunteer with us, whether you have a particular skill or resource or a general enthusiasm to help local wildlife, there are a few simple steps to follow:

  • Find a role/roles that suits your requirements and availability from our current opportunities
    - Please make sure you read the time commitment section, as all our opportunities take place at a specific time or on a specific day -
  • Complete the online volunteer enquiry form
  • Come to a New Volunteer Session (dates will be emailed to you when we receive your enquiry form)
  • Have a go at a trial activity to see if you like it (bookings are made at the New Volunteer Session)
  • Register as a volunteer if you enjoyed your trial activity

New Volunteer Session

Once we receive your enquiry form we will invite you to come along to the next New Volunteer Session. The session is designed to give you the opportunity to meet with NWT staff and volunteers to discuss the role(s) you have opted for in more detail and to book onto a trial activity. New Volunteer Sessions are held once a month, usually on a Thursday.

Trial Activity

Before registering fully as a volunteer with Northumberland Wildlife Trust we will give you the opportunity to ‘have a go’ at the role you have opted for first. This trial activity will show you what it’s like to volunteer with us, and will hopefully guide you in your decision on whether it’s the right role for you.
