Happy New Year, happy new Pumphreys

Happy New Year, happy new Pumphreys

Northumberland Wildlife Trust started 2022 by welcoming Pumphreys of Newcastle as its latest silver category corporate supporter. The family owned business, established in 1750 in the center of Newcastle, is run by Stuart Archer and his son Stuart Lee Archer.

The company still uses traditional open flame roasting drums dating back over 80 years to produce over 80 different coffees and teas, which have led to it winning the Best Espresso and Best Cappuccino in the UK Awards from the Beverage Standards Association.

Wildlife lovers visiting the Trust’s Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre Lookout Café at Druridge Bay have been drinking in the views and drinking cups of Pumphrey’s hot chocolate, barista style and filter coffee together with caramel, vanilla, gingerbread and hazelnut syrups for the past six years.

Visitors to the café at Northumberlandia in Cramlington are now enjoying Pumphrey’s hot chocolate, latte and award winning cappuccinos all under the watchful eye of the Lady of the North herself.

The wildlife charity, which has a number of nature reserves within seven miles of the Pumphreys site in Blaydon including Priestclose Wood, Close House, Prestwick Carr and Fencerhill Wood, is delighted with the company’s support at a time when many charities are feeling the pinch financially due to covid.

Mike Pratt, Northumberland Wildlife Trust Chief Executive said: “I am thrilled to welcome Pumphreys of Newcastle on board to our group of corporate supporters.

“Over the past 18 months, more people than ever before have turned to nature for the sake of their mental health and wellbeing, so it is great to see a household name supporting our work conserving wildlife and creating green spaces for them to enjoy - not to mention, keeping visitors refreshed at our Hauxley and Northumberlandia visitor centres.”
