New Wilder Development Officer for Northumberland

New Wilder Development Officer for Northumberland

Northumberland Wildlife Trust has appointed Elizabeth Grieve as it's first ever Wilder Northumberland Development Officer.

A BSc (Hons) graduate in Land Management and Conservation from the University of Cumbria, Elizabeth who hails from Chesterfield in Derbyshire has worked on the Scottish isles of Islay and Mull and most recently for the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority across its land management section.

Based at the Trust’s headquarters in Gosforth, Elizabeth will be working with farmers and landowners across Northumberland supporting them to develop nature friendly farming practises and enhance habitats on their land and within the wider landscape. She will also be supporting and managing rewilding projects across Northumberland.

In her spare time, she is working on an upland farm project in the Yorkshire Dales.

Speaking about her appointment, Elizabeth says: “I’ve had a lifelong passion for the natural world. My fondest childhood memories are of long walks, stopping to watch the birds, pick bilberries and just being surrounded by nature. I love how there is always more to learn and explore within the natural world, the interconnectedness between species, including humans, is fascinating!

“Needless to say, I am really looking forward to working the Trust, helping to create a wilder Northumberland. This is a time of massive change for farmers in the north, and I am looking forward to supporting them and help support nature within the farm system, and on a landscape scale.”
