About the event
A day to celebrate peatlands and all that they can offer.
Curious about the wonders of bogs and why peatlands matter to people and the planet?
Come find out and celebrate International Bog Day at Moss Peteral Farm (CA8 7HY) on the 25th of July!
Join us from 10:00 to 15:30 for a a really intriguing day of peatland themed workshops and local food – all set within a living peatland in Northumberland’s uplands.
Hosted by the Wilder Northumberland Network and the Northumberland Peat Partnership, this event brings together landowners, ecologists, artists, and peatland specialists to explore the connections between people and peat.
We’ll begin with two short films, one about Moss Peteral Farm, followed by another introducing the Northumberland Peatland Partnership and the work they do. You will then hear a creative writing recording featuring The Wou, Northumberland Wildlife Trust's SSSI mire at Moss Peteral. After this introduction, there will be a choice of workshops:
- Monitoring peatland moths and butterflies
- Archaeology and peat - the role peatlands play in archaeology preservation and the threat of climate change
- Forestry England's work on the Border Mires
- A tour round Moss Peteral Farm from an artist's perspective
You’ll also enjoy a locally sourced lunch, meet the Wilder Northumberland Team and the people behind Northumberland's peatland restoration efforts. To finish we will gather for a peatland related story!
