Northumberland Astronomical Society (NASTRO) is hosting a special stargazing event at Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s Hauxley Nature Reserve on Saturday, September 26th.

The immersive experience, which runs from 7pm to 9pm, will be led by Dr Adrian Jannetta FRAS and combines a fascinating talk on astronomy with the chance to observe the night sky through powerful telescopes.

Visitors will begin the evening in the classroom at Hauxley’s Wildlife Discovery Centre before heading outside to marvel at the stars alongside members of the NASTRO team. 

Guests will also have the opportunity to use the reserve’s observatory telescope and explore the wonders of the universe for themselves.

The event offers a rare chance to visit Hauxley Nature Reserve after dark, as the site is normally closed to the public during the evening.

Thanks to its remote location and exceptionally low levels of light pollution, Hauxley is regarded as an ideal stargazing spot. 

Previous events have given participants breathtaking views of Jupiter, the Milky Way and even shooting stars. Visitors may also be lucky enough to spot some of the reserve’s resident bats emerging after sunset, weather permitting.
