Delivered in partnership with Ouseburn-based Wild Roots Community Garden, the free event will take place on Tuesday 8 September from 4pm to 7pm and will highlight how young people in urban communities can create valuable spaces for wildlife while enhancing the places where people live and work.

Leading the session will be Nick Figgis, Urban Wildlife Community Gardener, who will demonstrate how human-made habitats can support a wide range of wildlife in urban areas. Participants will be encouraged to roll up their sleeves, get hands-on and learn practical skills that they can take back to their own neighbourhoods.

The event will also feature a pond-dipping exploration session led by Northumberland Wildlife Trust trustee and pond expert Mike Jeffries, offering attendees the chance to discover the fascinating wildlife living beneath the water's surface.

Visitors can also take part in a workshop exploring how nettles can be transformed into natural cordage for bracelets and necklaces, alongside practical activities creating habitats for insects, birds, and mammals.

The event is part of the Championing Nature Project, a new programme aimed at creating positive, lasting impact in urban communities through greater connections and engagement with nature and made possible thanks to support from The Championships, Wimbledon and Emirates.
