Between November 2023 and October 2024, Co-op Members both local and across the UK chose to support the wildlife charity’s work at the nature reserve, near Bardon Mill, via the company’s £4million fund.
The 21-hectare site is one of the best examples of semi-natural ancient woodland in the region and supports plants typical of this special habitat, including wild garlic, woodruff, and dog’s mercury as well as a number of uncommon species and regional rarities.
Jennifer Care, Estates Officer at Northumberland Wildlife Trust says:
“The Co-op’s Local Community Fund was a fantastic opportunity for Co-op Members to help Briarwood Banks nature reserve at no cost to them!
“The money we have received will go towards looking after this beautiful site and making it even better for wildlife and visitors.”
