With just over two weeks remaining until the October deadline to complete the purchase, the Trust has raised more than £28 million towards its £30 million target thanks to support from thousands of people across Northumberland, the UK and around the world.
Covering 3,800 hectares, the Rothbury Estate represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to protect and restore a vast landscape for wildlife and future generations. The estate provides a rare large-scale haven for nature, supporting wildlife across its rivers, woodland, farmland and open skies.
The appeal has received a further boost following the success of September’s match funding campaign, which raised more than £1.6 million. Inspired by that achievement, three additional donors have pledged support for a new £150,000 match fund.
Until the purchase is completed at the end of October, every £1 donated will be matched, doubling its impact up to the £150,000 target.
The Trust says the fundraising effort reflects widespread public support for protecting one of Northumberland’s most treasured landscapes and ensuring it remains in conservation management for years to come.
Catherine Kirkham, Head of Fundraising at Northumberland Wildlife Trust, said:
"We're so excited to be nearly at the finishing line and have been overwhelmed by the support we've received. We couldn't let down the thousands of people who have already backed this vision by allowing this opportunity to pass by at the very end. That's why fundraising will continue until the end of October, when we will complete the purchase."
