The self-led trail through the woodland of the Blagdon Lane site will be running between the 7th December launch and New Year’s Eve, but excludes Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Downloadable at www.nwt.org.uk/events the trail is set to test the festive knowledge of everybody (aged three and upwards) as they hunt for robins Woody, Sparkle, Gabriel, Wenceslas, Carol and their friends, all under the watchful eye of the Lady of the North herself.

Gates open each day at 10:00am and close at 3:00pm.

The launch of the trail coincides with the wildlife charity’s Northumberlandia Festive Gathering on the same day, again between 10:00am and 3:00pm.

For five magical hours, members of the public can join the elves and a team of Northumberland Wildlife Trust volunteers for free nature-themed crafting and the chance to buy last minute gifts such as cards, calendars, clothing, hand-knitted creatures, plus gifts for any four-legged friends visiting the site. There will also be free mince pies and mulled wine (while stocks last).

The Weetslade Winter Trail is back for another year from Saturday 20th December until Sunday 4th January.

Between 10:00am and 3:00pm each day, members of the public can follow a free map to learn fascinating facts about the former colliery site and this time of year and the wildlife that call it home.
