The reserve teamed up with a production company to film a new episode of My First… the long-running CBeebies series that follows young children as they encounter big life moments.
Since its launch in 2016, the show has covered more than fifty ‘firsts’ from getting glasses and opening a bank account to going on a boat trip and having a haircut before starting nursery.
This time, the ‘first’ is a visit to a nature reserve, filmed at Hauxley on Druridge Bay.
A local youngster explored the reserve’s wildlife, habitats, and Discovery Centre - and there’s even hope that Alex Lister, Druridge Bay Landscape Manager, will appear narrating part of the episode.

The reserve isn’t new to the camera as it has already appeared on Springwatch the BBC’s flagship wildlife series, Ranger Hamza’s Eco Quest - a CBeebies favourite, Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes showcasing North East landscapes and Countryfile - both of which are also on the BBC.
The Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre team is well-used to hosting film crews, and this latest collaboration continues to put Northumberland’s wildlife on the national stage.
Alex Lister, Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s Druridge Bay Landscape Manager says:
“I had a wonderful day filming with the crew - the sun shone and the wildlife didn’t disappoint. Whenever the Hauxley reserve features on national television we have an influx of visitors onto the site and into the café all to see for themselves what they saw on their screens, and I have a feeling it will be the same when this CBeebies episode airs.”
