The ‘Bards’ are on their way

The ‘Bards’ are on their way

With only four weeks to go until the The HandleBards pedal back to Northumberlandia in Cramlington, Northumberland Wildlife Trust is keeping its fingers crossed that the good weather returns.

With a handful of tickets still for sale, the ‘Bards,’ the world’s first bicycle-powered Shakespearean actors, will be dismounting to woo the region’s lovers of the Bard of Avon with their extremely energetic performance of Twelfth Night and all under the watchful eye of the ‘Lady of the North’ - one of the North-East’s famous landmarks.

Written in 1601, the play features, amongst others, Duke Orsino who is in love with Lady Olivia (who will not have anything to do with him), Viola a gender-bending heroine who is shipwrecked and decides to cross-dress as a boy and a pompous butler called Malvolio. There is drunkenness, frivolity and cross-dressing a plenty… a bit like a 17th version of Emmerdale.

In previous years, The HandleBards have performed ‘As You Like It’ and ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ at Northumberlandia to enthusiastic audiences.

Tickets are still on sale for the event - priced at £15 per person with under 12’s going free. To book a place visit www.nwt.org.uk/handlebards.

So save the date: Tuesday 14 August, make a note of the time: 6:30pm - 9.30pm (including the interval) and enjoy a great evening of entertainment in usual HandleBards style. Gates open at 5:00pm.

This is a fundraising event on behalf of Northumberland Wildlife Trust.
