For, Northumberland Wildlife Trust, which has two nature reserves in Gosforth at Fencerhill Wood and St Nicholas Park, has received a cash boost of £500 through the company’s Green Token Scheme.

The ASDA store on Hollywood Avenue, near Regent Centre, is no stranger to the wildlife charity and, in the past has seen its community champion Michelle Castledine helping to promote the wildlife charity’s Gosforth events in the store and rolling up her sleeves and digging in with the St Nicholas Park Volunteer Gardening Group.

Speaking about the £500 cash boost, Daniel Venner, Director of Finance at Northumberland Wildlife Trust said: “These are really difficult times for everybody including charities, so to receive a cash boost from the generous shoppers at ASDA Gosforth really does lift the spirits.

“Nature and green spaces have helped so many people during lockdown, this money will help our conservation work which is more important than ever as we strive to provide a natural health service for everybody.

“I know we have worked with Michelle and the ASDA team in the past, so it goes without saying we are all looking forward to meeting up with them all again when life eventually returns to normal."

The cheque was collected by Gosforth resident and Northumberland Wildlife Trust volunteer Georgina Moroney and Jess, the Trust’s Flexigraze Conservation Grazing sheepdog who was the only person not worrying about social distancing and wearing a facemask.
