Ian set to expose rock star secrets on national TV

The crew from BBC Countryfile headed to Kielder Forest at the end of last week to film material for a December episode of the programme.

The programme, which is due to go out at 5:20pm on Sunday 5 December, features an extended piece on the rocks and landscape of Northumberland with Ian Jackson - geologist, trustee of Northumberland Wildlife Trust and Northumberland National Park resident.

Countryfile presenter Charlotte Smith interviewed Ian at two locations: in a remote old quarry in the forest, south of Wark and on the Whin Sill, north of Sewingshields Crags.

A graduate of Newcastle University with a degree in Geology and Geography, Ian worked for the British Geological survey for 38 years, before leading national, European and global projects to make geoscience data digital and web-accessible.

Ian’s TV appearance is a result of a Rock Festival project, launched to celebrate Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s 50th anniversary year. Over the past 12 months, he has recorded 12 films around the region, revealing the geological secrets of a number of well known, but also some well-hidden, sites in Northumberland, Newcastle and North Tyneside.

The programme will be broadcast on Sunday 5 December at 5:20pm.
