As June ushers in long days, buzzing gardens, soaring swifts and wildflowers pushing through even the smallest cracks in the pavement, the charity is once again championing 30 Days Wild -the UK’s biggest annual nature challenge - inviting everyone to do one wild thing a day throughout June.
Now in its twelfth year, the campaign encourages simple, uplifting acts that help people feel closer to nature.
Participants can choose anything from planting wildflowers for bees, listening to birdsong, noticing the wildlife on their doorstep, or letting a corner of the garden grow a little wilder. The challenge is free, flexible and starts with a single small choice.
Anyone wanting to take part can sign up to receive a free postal pack and daily inspiration emails at: www.wildlifetrusts.org/30dayswild
To celebrate the month‑long campaign, Northumberland Wildlife Trust will host its popular Big Wild Saturday at Northumberlandia on Saturday 20 June.
Running from 10:00am to 4:00pm, the event will feature outdoor yoga, mindfulness in nature, an introduction to foraging, medicinal herb walks, forest bathing, nature‑crafting sessions and an outdoor sound‑bath experience.
Frances Smiles, Community Events Co‑ordinator at Northumberland Wildlife Trust, says:
“Whether you live in a busy city centre or in the countryside, wildlife can be found everywhere if you spend just a moment looking for it.
“Connecting to the natural world is the first step to caring for it and playing a part in protecting it. It starts with the simple things - listening to morning birdsong, hearing hedgerows humming with life, or even just pausing to watch clouds drift across the sky. This June, join the national 30 Days Wild family and have some fun.”
