Yoga lot of fun at Northumberlandia

As lockdown starts to ease and life starts getting back to some semblance of normality, Northumberland Wildlife Trust is expanding its range of outdoor activities at Northumberlandia.

Following the success of a series of yoga sessions with Palo Santo Yoga, the wildlife charity will be hosting more throughout August and into September - all under the watchful eye of the Lady of the North.

The sessions will be led by Palo Santo Yoga instructor Michelle Perkins from Cramlington who is a qualified midwife and a 200-hour Yomala vinyasa and yoga therapeutics instructor.

Michelle’s specialty is Vinyasa yoga - a style of yoga in which each posture flows into the next and are linked very closely with an individual’s breath which allows them to cleanse their mind, body and soul simultaneously.

With the perfect weather and beautiful Northumerlandia reserve to stretch out on, it’s no surprise the sessions have proved extremely popular with people looking for new ways to relax following the stresses of lockdown.

Claire Darcy, Northumberlandia Events Officer says: “It’s all about trying something different and I’m delighted the yoga sessions have proved so popular as it’s the first time we’ve hosted anything like this.

“When social distancing measures were introduced, we had to think quickly about what the site could offer, so from pond and landscape trails to yoga and a sneaky ice cream from the freezer in the café, I think we’ve done pretty well.”

You don’t have to be an expert as beginners and experienced yogis can gain the same benefit but by variations to many poses. You never know, who may even catch a glimpse of the Lady of the North herself trying the yoga goddess pose.
