Anybody over the age of 16 wishing to put a spring in their step should head to the Trust’s West Chevington site at Druridge Bay on Saturday 12th April and join the biodiversity team on their West Chevington Wander see if the site is waking from its winter slumbers.
An Easter crafting event on Saturday 12th April at the Trust’s Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre on its Druridge Bay reserve kick starts the fortnight of events on the site, where, anybody over the age of 16 can try their hand at making a simple and eco-friendly Easter decoration to take home with them at its Easter Crafting morning.
Staying on the Hauxley reserve, between Saturday 12th April and Sunday 27th April, there’s the opportunity for nature explorers of all ages to part in the self-led Easter Trail around the Druridge Bay reserve, answering quiz questions along the way.
On Wednesday 16th April, head to the Wildlife Discovery Centre again for two Wildlife Origami sessions and learn how to make foxes, birds, ducks and frogs from paper.
The wildlife charity’s Hauxley reserve is famous for the birds that visit it throughout the year, and on Thursday 17th April, visitors will be the opportunity to join the team to find out more about the birds on the site and as well as putting their bird spotting skills into action around the award-winning reserve at the Brilliant Birds event.
Following on with the bird theme, at the start of the following week, on Monday 21 April, visitors will have the chance to take part in a Bird Box Making event and make their own bird box to take home and learn more about the garden species that will move into them.
And it’s not just humans being offered a great time this Easter. At Weetslade Country Park, in addition to the Art Trail, running on Saturday 12th April, pooches of all ages are invited to bring their humans to the Good Friday Doggy Wagtastic Easter Meet-Up on Friday 18th April., where, for two hours they can meet fellow dogs while their humans find out more about the Trust’s work on the former colliery site.
The Lady of the North, aka Northumberlandia is also set to host a programme of fun events for children and young people over the school holidays.
From Easter Crafts and Nature Stories on Tuesday 15th April to the ever-popular Den Building event to test survival skills on Tuesday 22nd April and the Tracks and Signs nature detective sessions on Thursday 24th April there will be something for everybody to get involved in.
And, for anybody who likes to do things at their own pace, there is the self-led Easter Egg Trail through the Northumberlandia Woodland over the Easter Weekend (Friday 18th April - Monday 21st April) to find hidden numbered eggs and ends with a small chocolate treat

“There’s something for everybody this Easter, whether you like bird spotting, have four legs and a tail, want to learn how to build a den or just simply want to stroll in peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of life, head to the coast at Hauxley and West Chevington or inland at Northumberlandia.”
Most of the activities are free thanks to funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the North East Combined Authority Investment Fund with the North East Combined Authority as the lead authority.
