Generous brewers supporting Ratty this festive season

As part of its ongoing support for the Restoring Ratty project, The First and Last Brewery in Eldson is offering 10% from all its products sold, between now and Christmas Eve, to the project which has worked tirelessly for five years to return water voles to the Kielder area.

The friendship between the Northumberland brewery and the Restoring Ratty project began in 2018 when owners Sam and Red Kellie created a beer aptly called ‘Ratty’ on behalf of Northumberland Wildlife Trust and offered to donate 20p to the project from each bottle sold.

Since then, the brewery has donated £1,925 to the project as well as becoming Bronze Category corporate supporters of the wildlife charity.

The money raised has been put towards the release of 2085 water voles, introduced almost 2000 children and students to the wonderful rodents through educational activities and supported events in the local community.

Speaking about the continued support from The First and Last Brewery, Graham Holyoak, Restoring Ratty project officer said: “Sam & Red are true inspirations and totally selfless.  They didn’t think twice when we approached them with the suggestion of producing a charity beer to help raise funds for the project and they have supported us ever since.  They are extremely community minded, and volunteered to check a camera trap for us near their home in Redesdale.

“Even during COVID we received donations and they became corporate supporters of the Trust.

“At a time when local businesses are still getting back on their feet after covid restrictions, it’s vital we all pull together, so come on everybody, raise your glasses to The First and Last Brewery and, of course, to ‘Ratty’ this festive season.”
