Head to East Chevington for some wild fun this summer

Whether there are red, amber or green travel lists in operation this summer, one thing is certain, Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s East Chevington nature reserve is always on the green list.

In addition, to celebrate life getting back to normal, the Catch My Drift project team will be hosting a number of summer events on the Druridge Bay reserve this July and August in support of all things local.

On Friday 16 July, between 9pm - 11pm, join the team for a bat walk around the reserve to find out more about the different species of dark knights that call the reserve home and, if you are very lucky, you may get a chance to hold one of the sonic bat detectors.

If you prefer walking round the reserve in daylight, the team will be hosting three weekend wildlife walks on Saturday 24 July, Saturday 7 August and Saturday 27 August between 9am - 11am. Taking in the sights and sounds of the reserve which is wild and alive at this time of year, nature lovers will be able to find out more about the flowers, plants, birds and mammals that make the 185-hectare reserve such an amazing place to visit.

It’s all about location, location, location on Wednesday 28 July, when, between 10am - 12 noon and 1pm - 3pm anybody can try their hand at making either a bird box or bug hotel to take home with them and install in their garden, yard or balcony or pass on as a present. All materials are provided free of charge.

Places are limited and do need to be booked.  Visit www.nwt.org.uk/events today to book a place and avoid disappointment.

The Catch My Drift venture at East Chevington is a three-year initiative backed by £418,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, via National Lotter players.  It is working to protect and revive threatened habitats on the Druridge Bay site for whilst, at the same time, providing a wonderful nature experience for people of all ages.
