New face on the block

There’s a new face in Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s West Northumberland team

Sally Johnson from Cramlington joins the wildlife charity on a Government Kickstart placement from Newcastle University where she graduated with an MSc in Wildlife Management.  Prior to that she studied Zoology at Liverpool John Moore’s University, graduating with a First class BSc (Hons) degree.

Based at the Trust’s Gosforth headquarters, Sally will be working on a number of the Trust’s projects including water vole conservation, tree planting with the Kielderhead Wildwood project team, species surveying and practical conservation work across the Northumbrian Water partnership sites at Bakethin Natures Reserve, Cartington. Colt Crag and Fontburn Reservoirs, Kielder Waterside and Whittle Dene. She will also be actively involved with Osprey Watch at Tower Knowe once the birds return from migration.

Before leaving her Cramlington home for university, Sally was a pupil at Cramlington Learning Village where her dream to help and work with wildlife began.

Speaking about her appointment, Sally says: “I’m so happy with my new role as it is the start of my conservation journey. It is providing me with the opportunity to realise my dream of protecting and conserving the environment whilst at the same time being fully hands-on, learning new skills and meeting other like-minded people who care about helping the world around us.”
