A one-legged black-tailed godwit was spotted feeding in the large lakes by visitor Gareth Evans.

Although the Hauxley team has no idea whether the bird was born with one leg, or may have lost it due to injury, the beautiful bird appears to be managing to fly, feed and enthral a steady stream of visitors.

Hauxley nature reserve is a haven for hundreds of species of birds and every year welcomes large numbers of black tailed godwits as they move south from their breeding grounds in Iceland to wintering areas in Britain, Ireland, France and Portugal although it is the first time a bird with one leg has made an appearance.
