The HandleBards peddling back for a ninth year

With warmer days on the horizon Northumberland Wildlife Trust is calling on people to pencil in a special date with the Bard of Avon this summer.

Following the success of previous years’ live Shakespeare performances at Northumberlandia on Blagdon Lane, The HandleBards (the Peddling Shakespeare: Cycling Theatre Company) are heading back to woo the region’s outdoor theatre lovers for the ninth year running.

On Saturday 8th August, between 6:00pm and 8:00pm, the cycling troupe will be parking up and performing a fantastically funny bicycle-powered production of As You Like It - under the watchful eye of the Lady of the North.

For two hours, the audience will be enthralled by the antics of the main character Rosalind who, along with her cousin Celia, flees to the Forest of Arden where they bump into Rosalind’s love interest Orlando - however, Rosalind is disguised as a male.

Enter stage right, a group of local Shepherds getting involved along the way and the stage is set for a wild ride of wooing, hilarious mistaken identity, the odd wrestling match and a group wedding where Rosalind and Orlando are married by a Greek god. What more could anybody ask for on a Saturday night in Cramlington?

Frances Smiles, Northumberland Wildlife Trust Community Events Officer says:

“The HandleBards are back for a ninth year, and we’re absolutely delighted they’ve put Northumberlandia on their cycle route.

“So, why not indulge yourself and celebrate the summer with an evening of outdoor theatre? Bring your fizz - alcoholic or non-alcoholic, low-level table and chairs and marvel at the beautiful surroundings - you won’t be disappointed.”

Doors open at 5:00pm.
