Rachel’s revved up and ready to run for the #TwoPointSixChallenge

Seventeen-year-old wildlife campaigner Rachel Sharp is revved up and ready to take part in the 2.6 fundraising challenge on behalf of Northumberland Wildlife Trust and is looking for sponsorship to protect all things wild and beautiful in the region. So, come on everybody - please give what you can.

The idea behind the worldwide challenge is to come up with an activity based on the numbers 2.6 or 26 (inspired by the cancelled 2020 London Marathon 26-mile distance) and complete it on or from Sunday 26 April.

Rachel who lives in Northumberland will be lacing up her trainers for the next 10 days and running the equivalent distance of the London marathon on the roads around where she lives - closely followed by her friends, neighbours and dog Rosie.

Sporty Rachel, a sixth former at King Edward VI High School in Morpeth says: “I love supporting wildlife and love running, so now that my gym has closed, what better way to fundraise than by harnessing what I enjoy most and running 2.6 miles each day.

“My friends and neighbours are all supporting me which is great news for the Trust and for the region’s wildlife.”

It's an especially difficult time right now for all charities and Northumberland Wildlife Trust needs as many Home Heroes like Rachel to do anything which includes the number 26 - hop or hoola hoop for 26 minutes, do 26 press-ups, clean 26 neighbours’ windows… the list is endless.

As a result of the Coronavirus crisis, the wildlife charity is facing a massive challenge in lost income from memberships, cancelled events and proceeds from its two visitor centres and cafés.

So, why not join Rachel with her fundraising and support her via uk.virginmoneygiving.com/RachelSharp13.

Alternatively, you can come up with an idea. Download the Trust’s fundraising toolkit, set-up an online fundraising page (find the Trust on Virgin Money Giving) or use our downloadable sponsorship form and then spread the word to your friends, family and neighbours for support.

And make sure you let the Trust know what you're doing by contacting mail@northwt.org.uk or by sharing your progress on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #TwoPointSixChallenge.

Staff would love to see your challenge photos and videos and you never know; you may make it into the Trust’s next glossy magazine.

There are no rules - apart from the Government guidelines on how to exercise safely during this time. The main thing is to get active, have fun, pledge whatever you can to help or fundraise to save the Trust.
