Run for wildlife!
After its cancellation last year due to Covid-19, we're delighted to hear that the 40th Great North Run will be celebrated this year on 12 September. The majority of our runners registered from last year have rolled over their places, but we have just one spare place remaining if you are up to the challenge. Please contact Christine.O'Neil@northwt.org.uk for more information.
Run like it's 1981
To celebrate the 40th birthday of the run, you can also take part in a fantastic free challenge during June, GNR81, which gives you the chance to relive the first Great North Run virtually. The organisers promise to take you on a retro running adventure to relive the experience of the first ever Great North Run, complete with a special GNR classic 80s playlist and the chance to wear the original race number. Join the fun of this amazing throwback journey and raise funds for NWT along the way. Find out more here. https://www.greatrun.org/virtual-running/gnr81/
Great North Run 2019
The Great North Run, was first staged in 1981 where just over 12,000 people took part. In 2019 (when the run was last held), the world's biggest half marathon took place on Sunday 8 September and taking an estimated 57,000 participants on a 13.1 mile journey from the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne to the coast in South Shields. Thank you so much to all our amazing runners for taking on the challenge we are so grateful! And thank you to everyone that supported through sponsorship or by cheering on the bright green badger t-shirts on the day. We raised over £3,500 which is a fantastic effort - thanks so much everyone!
