Do you have a passion for conservation and an enthusiasm to see missing native species back in our landscapes? Are you a keen team player who can enthuse and inspire the public? You can help us deliver The Missing Lynx Project Exhibition, which is a travelling roadshow, engaging with members of the public about the possibility of returning lynx to our landscapes in Northern England.

Responsibilities

  • Working as part of a team to help set up and deliver The Missing Lynx Project’s Exhibition (MLE) roadshow.
  • Engaging with roadshow visitors, to answer questions and provide information on the project.
  • Promoting the work of The Missing Lynx Project with an awareness of NWT/The Lifescape Project partnership.
  • Providing information about the biodiversity crisis within the UK, and how reintroductions of species such as lynx can help restore ecosystems.
  • Listening to and engaging with people about their own wildlife experiences.

 

Existing skills and experience needed

No specific skills required as training will be given

Essential
-Experience of listening to and engaging with people
-Enthusiasm for/knowledge of the work of The Wildlife Trusts and The Lifescape Project
-Enthusiasm for the topics being discussed within the MLE roadshow
-A good level of fitness to help set up roadshow equipment

Desirable
-Ability to travel independently to rural locations
-First Aid certification and Risk Assessment & Health and Safety training would be useful but are not essential

 

Skills development offered

  • Opportunity to build public engagement, communication and interpersonal skills and experience for career development – specifically around species reintroductions/recovery.
  • Opportunity to learn more about the biodiversity crisis, the ecology of lynx and their role within ecosystems.
  • Opportunity to learn about social engagement and consultation for reintroduction.
  • Training in relevant health and safety policies and codes of practice.
  • Opportunity to attend volunteer training events offered by NWT.

 

Support available

  • Training will be provided on key messages and FAQs to support engagement with the public.
  • You will be part of a wider team of NWT and LP staff and volunteers delivering the roadshow.   
  • Vehicle mileage and public transport costs will be reimbursed.
  • Personal protective equipment will be supplied when needed.

     

 

Time commitment needed

The roadshow will be running from April 2024 and will include weekdays and weekends, with both daytime and evening sessions. We are seeking a pool of volunteers that can sign up to help on a rota basis according to your availability. Ideally, once trained, you would commit to assisting with the roadshow on at least four sessions over the spring/summer 2024 period.

 

Any other relevant information

  • Training will be given – training session will take place in early April 2024.
  • NWT operates a comprehensive Health and Safety policy that all volunteers are required to adhere to.
  • Appropriate PPE and logos to be worn when instructed.
  • Events will be held indoors, but some outdoor set up of equipment will be involved.
  • Due to the operating hours of the exhibition, transport may be provided from the NWT office in Gosforth, but there may be sessions where independent travel is required.
